The Alabama Choir School was originally founded as the Tuscaloosa Boychoir in 1985 as a community organization for talented boys ages eight through fourteen. The name was changed to the Alabama Boychoir prior to its first international tour in 1992. With the addition of the Childrens Chorus in 1993 and the Girls Chorus in 1995, the organization's name was changed to the Alabama Choir School. The Chamber Choir was added in 2006 and consists of hand-picked high school students in grades nine-twelve. In early 2010, the Alabama Choir School introduced the Young Singers, a brand-new beginners music class for first and second grade boys and girls. As of the season 2014-2015 (OUR 30TH ANNIVERSARY!), we have two newly-named choirs: 1) The CONCERT CHOIR comprised of 4th-8th grade boys and girls that do a short tour within the state each spring; and 2) The AMBASSADOR CHOIR made up of 6th-8th grade boys and girls that go on national and even international tours. For our thirtieth anniversary in May/June 2015, we embarked on a nine-day trip to Japan! Our focus is to provide quality, after-school music education to young musicians in West Alabama from grades one-twelve by teaching teamwork with a positive spirit. Our students learn to read music and also music theory and history by studying and performing the finest choral repertoire available in one of the Southeast's most beautiful concert halls, the Moody Concert Hall at the University of Alabama's School of Music. Our staff has performed and taught all over the world and is now available to teach your young musician right here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama!
