Auditions

Rising 1st-5th grade singers do not need to “prepare” for their audition, but here are some exercises we may do in auditions:

• Vocal exercises to explore head voice (a lighter part of the voice which is most appropriate in choral singing)

• Tonal memory- echo 3 notes at a time (I sing, then you sing back to me; matching pitch)

• Sing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” or the ABCs

 

Rising 6th-12th grade singers need to prepare one piece ahead of time (listed below). Here are some exercises we may do in auditions:

• Vocal warm-up: various vocal exercises, singing on neutral syllables, determining range

• Tonal memory- echo: sing a few notes played for them on the piano

• Sing the melody of "My Country 'Tis of Thee" in F Major (sheet music will be provided and can be given to you ahead of time upon request)

• Sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" in a round with the teacher

 

When you arrive for your audition, please enter the church by way of the Gary Fitts St. entrance through the courtyard behind the Bama Theatre.
