Alabama Choir School Choirs

The Alabama Choir School offers SIX choir levels, providing a comprehensive choral music education for young musicians in West Alabama. Our three, progressive auditioned ensembles are Concert Choir for elementary and middle school aged singers, Intermezzo for advanced elementary and middle school aged singers, and Chamber Choir for advanced middle school and high school singers. Additionally, at the high school level, we have a select small ensemble, Encore. These four ensembles perform multiple times a year across West Alabama and beyond.

We also have two non-auditioned choirs, Discovery Choir for children ages 5–1st grade, and Preparatory Choir for students in grades 2–5th. These ensembles perform in musical sharings for families at the end of each session.

The Alabama Choir School’s Discovery Choir is an introductory level, non-auditioned choir for children ages 5 through first grade (singers must be 5 years old by September 1). This choir provides a foundation in choral singing through playful explorations of pitch, rhythm, and movement. Discovery Choir rehearses once a week for 45 minutes, and each 10-week session concludes with a musical sharing for families. Each session of Discovery Choir features unique songs and musical themes. One session is offered in the Fall and one in the Spring.

The Alabama Choir School’s Preparatory Choir is a non-auditioned choir designed for both beginning and more experienced singers in grades 2–5. Preparatory Choir focuses on exploring vocal technique, music theory, and rehearsal skills, preparing students for singing in an auditioned choir with confidence. Preparatory Choir rehearses once a week for 45 minutes, and each 10-week session concludes with a musical sharing for families. Students interested in continuing with the Alabama Choir School after completing a session of Preparatory Choir may be placed in a performing choir or they may enroll in another session of Preparatory Choir. Each session of Preparatory Choir features unique songs and musical themes. One session is offered in the Fall and one in the Spring.

The Alabama Choir School’s Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble for singers in grades 2 and above. Singers may be placed in Concert Choir after participating in one of our un-auditioned choirs. Singers new to ACS who are 5th graders or elementary aged singers who have significant music performing experience may audition directly into this ensemble.
